Estimate shipping before you book it
Get a practical shipping range from the same inputs carriers use: route, weight, pieces, dimensions and service speed. Then send the shipment details for a real quote when the range makes sense.
What drives the estimate
Four inputs do most of the work
- 1
Route
Origin ZIP and destination ZIP set the lane, zone and likely carrier mix.
- 2
Weight
Actual pounds plus dimensional weight decide whether this behaves like parcel, pallet or LTL.
- 3
Pieces
Box count, pallet count, stackability and handling notes change the accessorial risk.
- 4
Speed
Standard, expedited and next-day move on different carrier economics.
Rate bands
Planning numbers before the carrier quote
These are directional domestic ranges for ordinary commercial shipments. The quote request tightens them with lane, dimensions, freight class and accessorials.
| Service | Weight | Transit | Typical range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small parcel | 1-70 lb | 1-5 days | $12-$85 |
| Heavy parcel | 71-150 lb | 1-5 days | $55-$220 |
| Pallet / LTL | 151-4,999 lb | 2-7 days | $180-$950 |
| Truckload | 5,000+ lb | Quoted lane | Custom |
Parcel
Best for boxed shipments under carrier parcel limits. Dimensional weight can move the estimate more than distance.
Pallet and LTL
Best for palletized freight, machinery parts, inventory moves and heavier B2B shipments that do not need a whole truck.
Expedited
Time-sensitive lanes need live capacity. The estimate still helps decide whether the premium is worth quoting.
Accessorials
The add-ons that make cheap quotes expensive
- Liftgate pickup
- Liftgate delivery
- Residential delivery
- Limited access
- Inside delivery
- Appointment required
Put accessorials in the notes even if you are not sure. A clean estimate should surface the possible surcharge before the carrier invoice does.
Questions
Estimate first, quote second
Is this a final freight quote?
The instant ranges are planning estimates. The request form captures the data needed for a real quote, including route, weight, pieces, dimensions, freight class and timing.
What shipment types work best?
Parcel, heavy parcel, palletized freight and standard LTL are the cleanest fits. Full truckload can be scoped, but it needs live lane pricing.
Why do dimensions matter?
Carriers compare actual weight with dimensional weight. A light but bulky shipment can rate like a much heavier one, especially for parcel and oversized freight.
What if I do not know the freight class?
Send the commodity, dimensions and weight. That is enough to estimate the class range and flag when the final quote needs carrier confirmation.
Can you estimate accessorials?
Yes. Liftgate, residential delivery, limited access and appointments are common add-ons. Put them in the notes so the number does not come back artificially low.
Stop guessing freight spend from a checkout screen
Send the shipment details once. Get the estimate range, then decide whether the shipment is worth booking, repricing, consolidating or moving another way.
